While a gram of cocaine once cost several hundred francs, today the price is between 60 and 130 francs. So cheap cocaine as never before has huge consequences.
Today, cocaine is used between 0.5 percent and 2.5 percent by the Swiss population, depending on the country or the city, as reported by “SonntagsZeitung”, forward Indexline.
Emergencys gathering
Amazingly, drugs have an increasing degree of cleanliness. This has doubled more since 2013. Albanian gangs are flooding the Swiss market with pure cocaine, fighting their competition.
If he senses extremely clean cocaine, it can be dangerous because the risk of overdose increases. No other illegal medicine in Switzerland brings so many consumers to the hospital emergency department. In the Insolspital Bern alone, cases of overdomination have disappeared since 2013.
In the United Kingdom, cocaine deaths doubled. Fortunately, in Switzerland they remain stable at a low level. Meanwhile, increasing amounts are reaching Europe thanks to new smuggling methods including Switzerland. This year alone, police at Basel have provided a record 600 cocaine worth about 20 million francs.
South American cocaine Flood
In Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia, the surface of the head field increases in explosive growth. Ninety percent of the drugs smuggled from South America to Europe arrive in cargo ships. Especially familiar are the remittances of bananas. Ports like Rotterdam, Antwerp or Hamburg are on top of the list.
Companies carrying containers are unaware in most cases. However, crew members are being bribed. This also affects a Geneva-based transport company.
In March and April, American investigators discovered a total of 2.8 tonnes of cocaine on two MSC carriers. And in June, they confiscated 19.76 tonnes of cocaine worth about $1.3 billion aboard MSC Gayane, which also owns the mentioned transportation facility. This is the biggest US Customs discovery in its 230-year history. The cocaine hidden in the container was probably destined for Switzerland.
In the case of MSC Gayane, six of the 24 crew members were arrested and charged. The captain knew nothing as well as the transportation company in Geneva, which cooperates with the American authorities.
