“Perpetual Guardian”, a financial service company in New Zealand, took the job from 5 to 4 days a week during November, keeping the same fee. The result was that, during four days of engagement, the productivity of employees increased and there was not even the slightest wrinkle of the total level of work done.
The experiment was monitored by auckland University academics who noted that in the staff ranks, the level of assessments given to leadership, stimulus, empowerment and commitment all grew, compared to 2017. The stress level, meanwhile, dropped from 45% to 38%, writes family members.
“We were treated as adults, and the result was that we came as adults and as responsible people”, said manager Tammy Barker.
The experiment has been carefully followed by employers and policymakers worldwide, raising hopes of a better balance in the future between living and working.
