Although they have the highest rate of rejection of requests and live in a country that has no war or ethnic conflicts, nothing prevents Albanians from crashing into European doors as asylumrs.
Even in September, asylum applications for the first time by Albanians in one of the European Union countries have recognised increases according to data published by the European Defence Office for Asians. During the January-September period, their number increased by 21% year-on-year.
In total for the first 9 months of this year, there were also 15,469 other Albanians applying for the first time, while for the same period a year ago the number of applications was 12,835. Only September was 1,734 new applications, marking a 14% increase in reports last month.
Albania ranks in the top 10 countries of asylum seekers' origin in Europe, along with countries like Pakistan, Turkey, Iraq, Colombia, Iran and Nigeria, but the only European country.
Although refused, demand increases
During September alone, the number of negative answers on the part of the authorities was 1321, while only 57 requests were granted refugee status. The relevant EU authorities estimated in September that only 47 of the requirements should benefit asylum. This shows the low rate of admissions by Albanians. Georgian and Albanian applicants had the lowest level of recognition (resistently 3% and 6%) among the top 10 countries of origin, it is written in the monthly report. However, there are changes in various European Union countries regarding the level of recognition for the same country.
Among the 10 countries of origin with the highest number of applications in January-September 2019, the applications submitted by the Syrians had the highest level of accession and recognition (86%), followed by Turkish applicants (53%) and Afghan applicants (4.8%).
12,680 pending cases
The European Office for Support of Asylum Seekers reports that in September there were 12,680 pending cases for receiving an answer. The 6430 applications are submitted in less than six months, while the rest are expected to be considered for a longer period of time than that. This is the highest level of demand pending for an answer since September 2017.
EU asylum seekers situation
More than half a million applications were submitted to the European Union during the first nine months of 2019, with a 10% increase compared to a year ago. As before, Syrians, Afghans and Venezuelas had the number of highest applications, representing a quarter of all applications to the European Union.
Most of the major countries of origin, including Albania, have submitted more applications in January-September 2019 compared to the same period.
The level of recognition of asylum demand from the European Union was stable by about 32% in September 2019.
The suspension cases to the first degree remain significant. In addition, many applications remain pending a decision on complaint or review, until the end of June 2019.
