The chief of the UNICEF Office in Kosovo, Murat Sahin, has shown the priorities of this organisation for Kosovo in the next five years, which have to do with education in early childhood, disabled children and empowering young people.
“U n NICEF is working with Kosovo for more than 20 years and for the next five years we have three priorities. First priority: Giving each child the best chance to start life - education and development in early childhood. This starts from pregnancy to age 2. Early childhood education is part of care and crying, because in Kosovo only 20% of children have access to qualified day care. What we want to see is that every child has a chance to socialize, get ready for formal schooling and pre-school and cymbals offered for every child. Second Priority for U n NICEF is for disabled children. We want them to have equal rights and to be active citizens. Third priority is empowering young people. Kosovo has the newest population in Europe, and we want to see these young people become active contributors, happy teenagers and enabling them to fulfill their” potential, Sahin said.
primary school teacher “Faik Konica” in Pristina, Susan Ibrahimi, said such activities should be expanded even in rural countries, as there is a more difficult situation for children.
This activity is very hit for our school and for all the children across Pristina, because children want to join all other children together to mark the Day of the International Convention of Children. Children are very happy and I think that in every part of the world, children should have equal rights and not only in large cities but also in rural areas, because there is a slightly more difficult situation, children are less treated, less engaged in such activities. We in downtown Pristina always participate, but I had preferred that even rural areas engage”, Ibrahim said.
Unlike “The Convention on Child Rights” puts children first in the agendas of politicians and global policymakers, with the aim of advancing their rights.
The events on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the International Convention on Child Rights will continue even during tomorrow.
