KSF soldiers were forced to leave the army after hand grenades were thrown in the house

Belgrade's pressure on members of the Kosovo Security Force to leave it is still continuing. Some of them have not been able to withstand pressure and have left the KSF. Acting Minister of Defence Rrustem Berisha has shown that pressures are different to those when [...]

Acting Defence Minister Rrustem Berisha has shown that pressures vary to those until two members of this community have been thrown into their courtyards.

There is interest despite the many challenges that they really have and are facing almost consistently. We have cases where members of the KSF, especially the Serb community, are facing tremendous pressure, I regret that some members of this community have not been able to face these pressures and without their desire have been forced to stop working and make the decision to leave the KSF. There were stops at the border, other acts especially in the north, and we had two members throwing hand grenades in their family backyard. So the pressures are very different and I'm really grateful and I commend the members who've dealt with this pressure and who are still there to be part of KSF”, Berisha said.

Currently among the KSF are 54 members of the Serb community. That number, according to the minister, could increase as the KSF is in the stages of new recruits until January 1st, 2019, The KSF has released 18 Serbs.

The incumbent says that following the adoption of laws for the KSF, pressure is less than prior to approval.

“So far from the information I have about 70 have left the KSF, the requirements have been much greater before the decision, but now, even with this new recruiting has obviously improved the issue of communities, a small problem is the legal limit that is the age of 18-23 and that this criterion has happened with new laws, while the interests have had a lot before the change of mandate, have been around 200 who have been interested in being part of the KSF, but the age and standard criterion is for all of us and we have not had the right to change that criterion of constitutionality, Berisha adds.

Berisha said that with the latest recruiting there is a 7 per cent increase in community participation.

With this last recruit we have up 7% growth now we have communities, if we value % we've had 10 %s, 3 %s has had different influences that they had before pre-transition laws. But we still haven't started with the new recruit, which is expected to begin in January, the latest recruiting has only been the completion of the number up to 2,500 active, while from next year we will start with the new recruit that is meant to be under the transition plan that envisions increasing the number above 2,500 active. The interest is very good and if we take it compared to other states we're way ahead that someone with the applica being part of the structure, that counts as an extraordinary challenge, while in us interest is much bigger and moral and the will to be part of the uniform is extremely large”, Berisha points out.

He says that with the latest recruit, even the percentage of equality has improved.

With this last recruit we've had, we've improved the gender equality rate of 8.5, now we have 10 percent female participation in KSF facilities, which is not little because there are many states that have greater experience and do not have that percentage. Even with the new mandate, this force will be a professional and multiethnic force where ethnic diversity is and will be valuable in KSF”, Berisha tells EO.

Berisha has called on all communities to continue working within the KSF structure despite pressures.

“After the war has been the subject of whether a member of the Serb community becomes part of the police and now that work is not being done, I think that this problem will soon be overcome and I had extended the invitation that despite the pressures remain within the KSF structure. What I personally feel proud of is the inner environment within the KSF that none of these members have released The KSF, due to some internal pressure or frustration it may have experienced against any colleagues, has instead created an extremely good environment where everyone feels equal and we will continue further so that interethnic diversity is within the KSF”, Berisha points out.
