He has said that the United States of America has achieved a mixed record in terms of developments in the Western Balkans, citing some achieved successes.
There have been several successes, like the Prespa Agreement. I wouldn't call it Donald Trump's success, but it happened in his time and he supported it, so I think it's positive”
As for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, he says:
However, there has also been a instability in terms of Kosovo- Serbia and not much progress in other areas”.
Regarding American President Donald Trump's tendencies to win a foreign policy success before the presidential elections in 2020, Michael Carpenter said he needs the people he once had.
It really wants a foreign policy success it can show in 2020. And his clash with North Korea, Iran, Venezuela and Syria means he really needs something positive to be able to show the population he's had in at least one success in his own external policy”.
But Michael Carpenter does not view Donald Trump's administration as a success for the Kosovo issue, reports Klan Kosova.
” Of course, he would like to have a success here, but I don't see the circumstances leading to a success in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Not for reasons involving Trump, but simply because of other political factors between the two countries. And also, this strange duality of naming two messengers that I don't think is a recipe for success. So, basically, I don't think Trump will achieve what he wants, says former senior American official.
