Montchalin says France wants to be sure that the conditions set for the negotiations will be met and that the process itself will prove useful and with good results on the ground as soon as possible.
She made those comments in Zagreb, following a meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkov on Paris' decision not to support the opening of accession negotiations with northern Macedonia and Albania.
“France has a clear stance on the European perspective of the Western Balkans, it has been engaged for many years and does not question it. We just want to make sure that the conditions set for opening negotiations are met,” said Montchalin.
According to her, the negotiation process is not simply the fulfillment of a questionnaire and it is not just a legal and administrative process, but a process that brings additional European values to the ground”.
