Turkey must open Europe's door to Syrian refugees if the European Union does not provide Ankara with sufficient support, President Recep Tayip Erdogan said today, adding that Turkey cannot carry only the burden.
Turkey wants to create a secure <x0zone” in northern Syria, where up to 2 million Syrian refugees can move after the “region is cleared of Kurdish militia.
Ankara has repeatedly called on the EU to help Turkey expect more than 3.5 million refugees.
Whether we get support or not, we will continue helping the guests we expect. But if we are not successful, then we need to open the door”, Erdogan said at a press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Budapest.
