Leonardo DiCaprio has reacted against the Albanian government's decision to build eight hydro-power plants in Vjo.
Through a post in the Instagram, the actor has published a video and text of the “Associated Press”, which speaks of plans that end what sets this Albanian river apart.
K %Y IT IS POSTING DICAPRIO FOOD:
This is one of the last wild rivers in Europe. But for how long?
The Vjosa River crosses the forested slopes of Greece's Pindi Mountains to the Adriatic coast of Albania.
Albania's government has set in motion plans to set up dams in Vjo to generate electricity needed for one of Europe's poorest countries, with eight dams planned for construction along the river.
It's part of the “bum” of world hydropower plants, mainly in Southeast Asia, South America, Africa and less developed parts of Europe. Some hydro power plants, as a reliable, inexpensive, and renewable source of energy that helps curb fossil fuels. But recent studies question the value of hydropower plants in the fight against global warming. Critics say the plant's profits are overrated and highlight the damage dams can bring.
The dams block the natural flow of water and sedies. They can also change water chemistry and make toxic algae grow. Rivers are an essential part of the global water cycle. They act like natural arteries, keeping energy and nutrients in vast landscapes, providing water for drink, food production and industry”.
In contrast, Leonardo DiCaprio now calls for environmental protection, and even a climate change documentary has been carried out.
