Bolsonaro told his followers on social networks on Friday: “DiCaprio is a cute guy, isn't he? It donates money to light the Amazon”.
DiCaprio's environmental organisation has pledged $5m to help protect the Amazon after the fires destroyed large parts of the rain forest in July and August, the DailyMail writes.
The actor urged people at the time to consider granting to Amazon front lines groups that help the world's most endangered tropical readers.
DiCaprio attributed part of the problem to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who says he allowed farmers and cutters to clean up land after taking office in January.
Several volunteer firemen, who refuse to do wrong, were arrested and later released.
Local police say they are being investigated for allegedly lighting fires to receive funds through non-profit organisations.
Federal prosecutors say their investigation shows local land robbers as the top suspects.
