Morales resigned Sunday after weeks of protests over a controversial outcome of presidential elections.
The Mexican plane that held him landed at an airport in Mexico City, where he gave a brief press conference.
Morales said he was forced to resign, but that he did it willingly “so that there would be no more bloodshed”.
Left-wing leader said he and the Bolivian government were very grateful to Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who he trusted to save his life.
