On the 30th anniversary of the Convention on Children's Rights, the UNICEF Office in Kosovo has organised the main activity for marking this day.
UNICEF office chief Murat Sahin said every child should be heard voice.
It is very important whether you are politicians or ordinary citizens, what we can do best is for Kosovo children. The convention gives every child the right. Our role is to give the best opportunity to hear their” voice, he said.
Ahmet Kryeziu, director of Save the Children, said there are many challenges in Kosovo to realize children's rights.
The rights of children are part of everything we do as an organization. Some 95 years ago our founder wrote his first statement on children's rights. On November 20, we think and call for everyone to reflect on how many children's rights are realized in the world. It is a moment when all policymakers should think of how we can help more in realising children's rights”, he said.
The head of the EU office in Kosovo, Nataliya Apostolova, said that even in Kosovo, the phenomenon of violence is evident, and many children work on the street.
Today we mark the 30th anniversary of the convention, today is one day when we have to look at the barriers to realising children's rights. All children have the right to be sure, but today what we can see is that many children are victims of war and violence. Many children are growing up in other countries, many of them doing street work. Kosovo is not excluded from this phenomenon. Many children are victims of violence, and many are working on the street. This is not a phenomenon. I call on Kosovo institutions to respect the Children's Defence Law”, Apostolova said.
Kosovo, according to her, has many young people representing the country as Majlinda Kelmendi, Nora Gjakova, Rita Ora and I want Lipa.
