Three men who had once served as altar boys for the Vatican when they were young said that they were sexually abused by two priests when they served in church in the eight and nine years.
At the time the abuses reported by these men, whose stories will be broadcast on Italian television Sunday, they were between 10 and 14.
These charges come two months after the Vatican declared it would prosecute Father Gabriele Martinelli, 28, for allegedly abusing some altar boys in 2012.
The Vatican announced in September that it is also investigating the prosecution of a former church school rector, Father Enrico Radice, who is accused of providing assistance to these crimes.
The Catholic Church has faced thousands of counts of sexual abuse in various parts of the world, but Italian television investigations, which began in 2017, are the first to deal with pedophilia within Vatican walls.
The alleged victims of these attacks, already 37 and 40 years old, had come together a few years earlier to confess their experiences. Another person had made similar accusations, but had decided not to become part of this research by Italian television, writes the Guardian”.
