Former Albanian President Alfred Moisiu says the Haradinaj Government's decision on the 100% tax on Serbia has been appropriate, while the correction of borders is internationally dangerous. According to him, Kosovo is being wronged in terms of the visa liberalisation issue.
Moisiu, in an interview for KosovoPress, says the new Kosovo government should be far-reaching on the issue with Serbia and should find the way to deal with the neighbouring state.
Talks between Kosovo and Serbia for Moisiu are of great importance since it cannot be continued indefinitely with things pending.
According to him, it has been necessary to show Serbia that Kosovo has “home god”, and this was done with the introduction of a 100% tax on Serbian goods.
Moisiu says the tax has already achieved its effect and should be considered carefully as to how to continue on the issue.
Kosovo took a good measure to raise taxes, for me this decision has been valid, to say, an old word, the con has God, to understand better. But now that it has to be seen, I think the goal was achieved, for establishing the tax, the goal has been for Serbia to keep in mind that Kosovo decides on its own things, we listen to others, but we listen to it ourselves, and we have our first”, he said.
The former Albanian president considers that Kosovo's new government should not deal with day-to-day problems, but with what will be done away with, or as he emphasises, should be far-reaching.
As for the state of Serbia, he thinks that he will not be able to go on for long with stubbornness, while saying he does not understand Serbian politicians' statements: “Kosovo is the heart of Serbia”, since 95% of the population in Kosovo are Albanians.
“Serbs know what it is like, the Serbian Church also knows what it is like, but we live in the Balkans, we have neighbours, and with neighbours we need to find out how to deal. I often use an expression: Your friend and friend can choose but your neighbor is given by God. So you have to figure out how to deal with it. And, I judge that the new government that's now being created should think these things carefully, given perspective, should be more foresight, it's not the matter of daily problems, the problem is what's going to be done next. I don't think that even Serbia can't last that long with this stubbornness. They said stupid: Kosovo is our heart, as Kosovo may be Serbia's heart with 5 percent Serbs and 95 percent Albanians, I don't understand that, nobody understands that. But rabid nationalism has these things”, the former Albanian president says.
Asked about the idea of correcting the borders between Kosovo and Serbia, Moisiu says such an act is internationally dangerous.
The correction of the borders is dangerous, internationally dangerous, without talking about our interests. Because this opens a huge problem, so the good of all Balkan peoples is integration into the European Union, and then things are regulated”, Moisiu says.
Among other things, in the interview given to KosovoPress, the former Albanian president has stated that Kosovo is being wronged in terms of the visa liberalisation issue, failing to provide positive answers to why he has fulfilled all criteria.
