Nearly 1.8 million people migrated from Kosovo and Albania over 10 years

According to them, in recent years public discourse in the Western Balkans and the European Union has been dominated by public reports and debate about the scale of citizens from the Balkan region.
According to Institute Research EPIK, during 2008-2018, 2,979,766 citizens of the Western Balkans have emigrated to EU states.
From this figure, for this period, 1,599,971 or 54% of them have legally migrated, gaining residence permits; 808,030 or 27% are illegally caught in the EU; while 571,765 citizens or 19% of them have sought asylum.
Research says 171,690 persons from Kosovo have first sought asylum in European Union countries for the 2008-2018 period. For the same period, 141,900 citizens have stood illegally and 216,057 have received permission for the first time.
The EPIK says that during 2008-2018, 451,015 Albanian citizens were illegally detained in the EU states.
This is more than the number of all citizens from all countries in the region combined. In other words, 16% of Albania's population has been illegally occupied in the EU during this period. Albania has also led the region with the number of citizens who have won EU residence permission. 622,171 Albanian citizens won residence permits during 2008-2018”, the Institute said. EPIC in their research, while stressing that throughout the Western Balkans region, 39% of citizens gained EU access.
Also, according to research, Albania has led the region in the number of citizens to whom EU entry has been denied. During the 2008-2018 period, of all Western Balkan states, 332,470 citizens have been denied EU entry. More than half of them, or 170,450, were citizens of Albania.
Meanwhile, the country with the smallest rate of migration is Montenegro with 36,089 citizens or 6% of the population.
“The citizens' migration strain from the Western Balkans has reached a peak in 2015, with 425,385 citizens displaced towards the EU. Despite the collapse of the flow during 2016 and 2017, it has again marked growth in 2018, with 325,250 displaced citizens in the EU”, further said in EPI research.
As for EU countries which have accepted mostly asylum seekers, Germany leads 83,880 sos, followed by France with 41,885.
Meanwhile, countries leading up to illegally occupied citizens are Greece with 280, 850 and Germany with 52,220.
