White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement Thursday that “don't renew subscriptions to all federal agencies will be a considerable savings of taxpayers' expenses hundreds of thousands of dollars”.
The move was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. It follows President Donald Trump's recent indicators that the White House will end its “existing subscriptions with the two newspapers, which have been the frequent target of administration criticism through candidacy and Trump presidency.
“The York Times, which is a fake newspaper, we don't want any more at the White House. We'll complete the subscriptions with him and the Washington Post,” said Trump on Fox News”Hannity” on Monday evening.
“They're fakes,” added to the president. You take a look at the New York Times and take a look at the kind of reporting they do, it was everything that turned out to be wrong. ”
It is not clear how many subscriptions the federal agencies have for the Times and Post.
The amount the federal government spends on these subscriptions is also unclear.
Trump is not the first president to boycott a newspaper.
President John F. Kennedy cancelled the White House subscriptions to the New York Herald Tribune for perceived prejudice. But the White House renewed her subscription.
And the New York Times and the Washington Post didn't comment on that./Periscopi/
