“Pristina is continuing to behave with pressure on Serbia, especially since ultranationalists are now coming to power. That is why it is necessary to monitor closely what is going on, as it is clear that the Balkans remain a troubled” region, it has indicated.
Asked about the recognition of Kosovo by Serbia, Medvedev has said it respects only UN Resolution 1244.
“We have repeatedly said at the tournament all levels that we stick to the early stay. We begin by necessity to respect Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Not unilateral acts but UN Security Council Resolution 1244”, Medvedev said, commenting on Moscow's long-standing support for Serbia in its desire to preserve Kosovo.
The Russian prime minister has also responded to the idea of exchanging or changing maps between the two states. This, he says, is unacceptable and should never happen.
“in no way should we allow the repetition of any manifestation of violence, efforts to unilateral reshape of the Balkan map, or any other action that could result in a humanitarian catastrophe”, Medvedev said.
