This topic is very sensitive and comes at the time of tense US-Turkey relations.
Joe Biden, the candidate to win the Democrats' nomination for the presidential race, said this vote honored the memory of the victims, writes the BBC, translates Periscopi.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan said this vote was the worthless “”, after being held on Turkey's National Day, and that it was the worst insult the Turks could become.
There is general reconciliation that hundreds of thousands of Armenians died when Ottomans massively expelled Armenians from eastern Anadolus in the Syrian desert between 1915-16. They were killed or driven by hunger or disease.
The total number of Armenians dead during that time is unknown. Armenians say there were 1.5 million dead, while Turkey says there were 300 thousand. According to internationals, the number reportedly was over 1 million.
Congress also called for President Donald Trump to impose economic sanctions on Turkey after military shares in Syria against Kurds. /Periscope
