Canakorn Pianchana had released five Muslim men charged with murder this Friday.
He then recited a legal oath, pulled a gun, and shot himself in the chest.
The judge was immediately sent to the hospital and received his first aid, and fortunately he is out of danger for life.
A letter believed to have been written by the judge before making his decision states that his suicide attempt may be linked to the alleged intervention in the case.
