The Greek Foreign Ministry through a statement on the Western Balkan countries' EU perspective stressed that Greece has long supported this prospect.
This perspective opened at the EU summit held in Thessaloniki in 2003 and which Greece strongly supported as the way for consolidating regional stability and security”, the Greek Foreign Ministry's statement, given the European Council's failure to comply with the opening of negotiations on Albania and Northern Macedonia, says.
The statement cites Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the European Council meeting in Brussels, under which this stance remains one of the constant key points of Greek foreign policy.
“Greece will continue to support efforts made by countries in the region to meet the requirements for membership in our European family. To achieve that goal, we encourage these countries to stay committed to the path of reform, which may have only a positive effect on their approach to the European Union and the lives of their citizens. At the same time, we call on EU member states to work together to realise the European perspective of the Western Balkans, for the good of the region and Europe itself”, the statement said.
