Residents of the Gjilan municipality are now facing a shortage of water for drink.
The water level on Perlepnica's feather, which supplies drinking water to about 60 percent of the citizens of the Gnjilan municipality, has dropped from 100 feet [30 m] to 890 m].
The reason for this is the severe drought from the lack of atmospheric rainfall in recent months, which is the source of its water supply.
Regional Waterwater Chief Chief “Hydromoreva”, Muhamed Suliki, have told the news that if the water level falls below 7 meters, water exploitation is impossible.
Until the rain can't get better, it all depends on the weather conditions that we don't have any source flowing there to fill, but those springs that have been there have been exhausted because they depend on the atmosphere of water. Right now we have a level of 8.90 where we can get to 7.5 meters of water technically”, Sullivan said.
Sulqi also said they have made plans to manage this situation and have found alternative water supply, and have made water reductions in the evening.
According to him, the reductions in Penda are between 9:00 and 0600 a.m. And in Baja are between 24 and 6 a.m., and the supply from wells in Velesca is 24 hours in 7 days.
We've found alternatives where we've constantly notified citizens, we're working in that direction, I believe we'll soon activate KSF wells. If this situation continues for a long time then we may have the problem with Penda, which can be interrupted because of the amount of water, but with these other resources we have, we will supply citizens with water, but with reductions. It doesn't mean citizens are without water, it's just reductions, so we have other options. Feather is the main source, but above all we have other resources and we cross this situation together”, he said further.
We remember that such a situation in Gjilan had reigned during the month, where the water level in Perlepnica's feather had dropped to 16.50m.
For this the mayor of the municipality of Gjilan had also declared an emergency for water exploitation.
