Turkey wants to create a secure <x0zone” cleaning up Kurdish militia, and also offering Syrian refugees in Turkey another shelter.
Controversously Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of American troops before this action, but he did so by threatening Turkey with economic consequences if he crossed borders, writes the BBC, translates Periscopi.
Kurds were US's best allies in the final defeat of I SIS in Syria.
Trump's decision has been sharply criticised by even his associate Republicans.
