The password sharing theme was discussed in the profit interview of Q3 2019 of the broadcast platform earlier this week.
When users share passwords, they are basically sharing a single Netflix account, which naturally bypasss Netflix business model, under which each family should have its own account.
Users are already able to share accounts to some extent by placing some visual profiles at a single entrance, but sharing passwords takes that approach to another level.
Greg Peter, the main official of Netflix product, was asked during the interview how the company plans to address the sharing of passwords without “a specific portion of its user's base”.
“We continue to monitor it, so we are looking at the situation,” said Peter.
We'll see those friendly approaches to the consumer to push to the ends of this. ”
Peter said the company had no <x0 plan” to be announced immediately.
Separation of passwords has been a topic of interest in the broadcasting industry for some time.
According to the research company Magid, 35 per cent of millenniums share their passwords for streaming services, compared to 19 per cent of Generation Xers and 13 per cent of Baby Boomers.
In general, it is estimated by Magid that nine per cent of customers deal with sharing passwords. While this percentage does not appear high at first glance, the practice may add up to millions of dollars.
