President Hashim Thaci has remembered the Recak massacre on its 20th anniversary.
“20 years ago, Recak entered Kosovo's history as a symbol of the sacrifice and martyrdom for the freedom we enjoy today. January 15th 1999 was a very heavy day for Recak and all of Kosovo, but it was also a major turn in internationalising the just war of our people. After the genocide exercised by Serbian forces in Recak, the entire democratic world woke up and set up all international diplomacy”, Thaci wrote.
He has added that for crimes that Serbian police and military forces have committed in Kosovo, one day they will give responsibility.
But, today and forever, we remember and honor all the martyrs, martyrs and heroes of our liberation war. Recak's priests and martyrs are the foundation of Kosovo's freedom and independence”, Thaci has concluded.
