Russia's media regulator said he is investigating whether British broadcaster The BBC has broken Russian law by promoting Islamic extremism, as it said.
“verified if BBC websites act in accordance with Russian law. To date, a material has been discovered that broadcasts the ideological principles of a terrorist group (the words of terrorist al-Baghdadi)”, said through a Roskomnadzor statement.
Abu Bakr al-Baghdad is the leader of the extremist Islamic state group.
A probe is under way whether these materials are in line with the rates of Russian legislation”, Roskomnadzor's statement also said.
Last month, Roskomnadzor has said he has started controlling the legality of Russian BBC operations.
The announcement was made a day after Britain's media overseer, Ocom, has said he is considering sanctioning Russian state broadcaster RT, which he has accused of violating the rules of impartiality in seven programmes in 2018.
