Institutions responsible in Macedonia are considering the possibility that the first round of presidential elections will be held on April 21st, while the second on May 5th, while elections will be announced by February 8th, thus being respected the legal framework, Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi announced today.
That, as he stressed, would be in accordance with the Electoral Code, regarding the deadlines that must be respected, not more than 90 days, respectively, and no less than 70 days from declaring elections until the day of their holding. Chief of State Gjorge Ivanov's mandate expires on 12 May.
The presidential elections, Xhaferi stressed, were originally scheduled to be held on April 14th, while the second circle on April 28th, but considering that Easter is on April 28th, has become the shift of dates.
The parliamentary anchor mentioned that starting with what three municipalities have been mayoral, in Novo Sele because of the resignation, while in Debar and Ohrid because of the death case, it is planned that, in parallel with the presidential elections on the same day, the municipal elections will be held.
Regarding the possibility of announcing parliamentary elections, Xhaferi said that starting from current events in the country in terms of EU and NATO entry activities if there are elections, there will be a halt to normal functioning of institutions.
However, this is the decision of political parties, if they decide this way, this is their right”, Xhaferi added.
He hopes that by the time presidential elections are held, there will be new composition of the Anti-corruption Commission.
The chief parliament also stressed that efforts are under way to harmonise the law on fighting corruption and conflict of interest, which has the European flag over the timeline. /Periscopi
