US President Donald Trump has postponed future trips by House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, towards Brussels and Afghanistan, urging it to stay in the US and negotiate an end to the stalemate that has partially blocked the federal government.
The president has been able to stop the journey by refusing to use a military jet, Mrs. Pelosi and the delegation accompanying him. On Wednesday, Pelosi called on Trump to postpone his address to “the nation's status”, due to political stalemate.
Trump's last move comes on the 27th day of the longest closure in the history of the US federal government. The republican president requires a $5.7 billion financing to build a wall along the US-Mexican border, but the Democrats have rejected him.
The announcement of flights from Trump occurred just an hour before the Democrat Speaker of the House of Representatives left Thursday afternoon, according to the American media. White House Press spokeswoman Sarah Sanders published a letter to the president in <x0th>
I think that, during this period, it would be better if you were here in Washington to negotiate with me, and join the movement for stronger border security, as well as to end government closure”, Trump wrote.
The president even ironising, as he added that Pelos could continue on the trip, which he described as a “PR crisis”, using a normal passenger plane.
Late Thursday, the White House also announced it would not send a delegation of the United States to the global Forum for Economics in Davos, Switzerland, which will be held late this month because of the blockade.
