At a media conference, Justice Ministry Minister Abelard Tahiri has talked about paying lawyers who will protect those accused of the Special Court.
Tahiri said each person who has been summoned by the Special Court has the right to take any lawyer, but the state does not cover their expenses until they are accused.
On Sunday, former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army for the Lap Zone, Rrustem Mustafa (Remi) and other former KLA commander Sami Lushtaku left for The Hague to interview prosecutors of the Specialised Chambers.
Regarding the payment of their defence lawyers, Tahiri has said that so far they have not accepted any requests for financial assistance.
“So far we have no request from persons who may be charged by the Special Court for financial assistance”, Tahiri said.
While for the highest fee the state will pay for those charged by the Special Court, Tahiri has said it has not yet been appointed.
“Tarifa has not been set yet, it will be a definition of how much lawyers” will be covered, Tahiri said.
