Lawyer Natal Bulaaj has spoken about his client, Remzi Shala, who at the Prizren Court is being tried for war crimes, allegedly committed during the time he was a KLA fighter. Lawyer Burakaj said that with the former KLA commander, known as “The Red Molla”, there is no [...]
Lawyer Burakaj said that with the former KLA commander, known as “The Red Molla”, there has been no contact since his escape in December.
The lawyer said he doesn't know Shala's whereabouts since then.
Regarding the court case in which he defends him, Bulaaj said that on January 8th, the day before the court hearing was held, he had talked to Remzi Shala's family members.
I've been told that we have no information about where Remziu” can be found, the lawyer told me. com
Not even Remzi Shala's fellow fighters are knowing where he's staying.
Natal Bulaaj said that because of Shala's failure to present himself, he would give up his defence.
It's not about justice. Initially, he has injured me as his lawyer, since as long as he can and work took up the trial in Prizren, and at the end of the process he escaped and damaged the process. His escape also undermines the process against fellow fighters and prevents the KLA from defending its values. We are also interested in protecting KLA war values”, the lawyer said.
Charged for the kidnapping of Haxhi Pertesh in Duhdhl in Suhareka during wartime, Remzi Shala was being tried at the Prizren Court.
In early December 2018, he received an invitation to interview the Special Court in The Hague.
But the former commander of The KLA has publicly announced it would not respond to the call to The Hague.
In this case, lawyer Natal Bulaaj said he is not authorized to protect Remzi Shala at the Special Court, and therefore he has not even contacted the Special Chambers, not even his client's escape.
About Remzi Shala's failure to appear at the Prizren Court, Judge Raima Elesi, who is trying the case, has issued an arrest warrant for police conduct.
According to the lawyer, if the police do not find the defendant, then the Court will issue an open warrant and wherever they are found, they will be arrested and likely some safety measure will be established until the trial is over.
Remzi Shala in Kosovo's “Commission “at the end of January 2017 denied he was involved in Hadzi Pertesh's freedom deprivation in June 1998.
