At the port of Durres, the ceremony for the start of the work of Kosovo Customs in Port has been held.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the opening of Kosovo customs in Durres is the first step towards the customs union of both countries.
Rama said that in the spring there would be a fluid border between the two countries and that he would like this practice to be followed even for Macedonia and Montenegro.
He said he does not have large Albania, but has an Albanian nation.
I'm so glad that today we gather at another stop on our journey. To free Kosovo's customs office in Durres and turn the port of Durres into a Kosovo customs site. Kosovo customs here in Durres is the first step towards the full customs union of the two countries. Border integration according to the Schengen model. The Schengen system, which means we're only in one check now, from two points we have one, it's going to take a little longer as a procedure, because in the spring we're going to have a fluid limit. We want to establish this system with both Macedonia and Montenegro. Albania's big is an enemy's make-up, there is no large Albania, there is an Albanian nation”, Rama said.
While Fatmir Limaj, the national co-ordinator of the two governments, said this is the second most important project, after that of the austrada.
“Today is an important moment of deepening cooperation. I believe this is the second most important project since the proclamation of independence, after that for the construction of the highway. Of the four decisions he has made in Pec, two governments, and this is the second one being realised. The first is common border points, and the second is this. This shows that we joint meetings are not what they are called, but we have gone into concrete action. Opening this office is good news for both countries. From today Kosovo has its port, as an important centre of economic development”, he said.
