The direction for journalism may be closed at Pristina University since next year.
According to files provided by the media, neither has this direction met the criteria set by the State Council for Quality.
Meanwhile, Pristina University's Department of Journalism chief Milazim Krasniqi has confirmed to Kosovo Preress, that they have not made such a decision, but has said putting journalism programme on the list of suspended programmes has been a technical error.
“We still don't officially have such a document, it is launched that there is proposal for suspension of the Bachelor (in journalism) programme, though, I'm saying, not officially. We have accredited this programme by 2020. The agency at the meeting with the Parliamentary Commission has stated that in the case of journalism it is a technical error, we are now waiting for them to correct that technical error”, Krasniqi has said.
And possible closure of this programme, Krasniqi has described a major damage to journalism in Kosovo. According to him, journalism is the highest rate employment programme.
The “would be a huge damage, because the media and journalism in our country are developing vigorously and the need for qualified journalists is always great. According to statistics released, we have a 100 per cent employment rate in the master's programme, while at the Bachelor level we have an employment rate of 72 per cent, which means (gazetaria) is the highest rate of employment programme in all Kosovo universities. Therefore, closing a programme that is so successful would be meaningless”, Krasniqi said.
