A British hacker whose cyber attacks influenced the entire Republic of Liberia to remain without the internet, was arrested and sentenced to nearly three years in prison.

In October 2015, Daniel Kaye conducted a series of attacks on the Liberian lonestar company, one of the country's largest mobile phone operators, and the attacks were so strong that this West African state remained offline for about a year.

The investigation found that the hacker was employed by an employee of the rival Celcom company, but there is no evidence that the company's leaders knew the plan, Kosovo Press broadcasts. The hacker was convicted and claimed responsibility for establishing a network of computers related to the purpose of offensive systems. On January 11th, he was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.

During the trial it was concluded that the accused, staying in Cyprus, caused several DdoS attacks in Lonestar, which led the company to spend more than $600,000 to ease the consequences of the attack. Additionally, because of problems back then, users massively abandoned the network, which led to losses costing tens of millions of dollars. The attacker was arrested in February 2017 and immediately deported to Germany, where he admitted he was also responsible for the attacks on Deutsche Telekom, which jeopardised millions of users in November 2016.

Experts stress that he is a very professional hacker whose activities have damaged operations of a large number of companies worldwide.

As his biggest achievement, he said he managed to destroy the internet and shut down a state's total teritan.
