Facebook comes to the aid of social journalism today, the social network announced it will invest $300m over three years, mainly in the US, in projects to promote local information, which suffers most from internet domination.
“We will continue to fight against false information (false news), misinforming and information of poor quality”, explains in a message posted on Facebook, Campbell Brown, vice president of the company in charge of media partnerships, but we also have the opportunity and responsibility to help local media grow up and succeed.
In early January 2017, the social network launched “Facebook journalism project” to strengthen platform links with the media industry.
At that time it was mainly about offering media solutions to improve the revenues stemming from their presence on Facebook and to develop exchanges between social networks and media outlets.
