Alex Cifentes, who has said he was a close associate of “El Chapos” for many years has talked about the left hand bribe during questioning by one of Guzman's lawyers at the Federal Court of Brooklyn, Reuters reports.
Asked whether he told the authorities in 2016 that Guzman arranged the bribe, he has replied: “Yes, that's what it is”.
Pena Nieto has been president of Mexico from December 2012 to November 2018. Earlier, he served as governor of the state, including the capital city of Mexico City.
Guzman, 61, has been tried in the US since November of last year. He was extradited to America in 2017 to face charges of cocaine trafficking, heroin and other drugs in the country as cartel leader.
