Journalist Baton Haxhiu has told of laspi.al that he had sent a long message to President Ilir Meta, asking for Gent Cakaj's decree as soon as possible in office of Albania's foreign minister. This Haxhi text was written before the president announced his decision and apparently did not contribute to the refusal Ilir Meta made to Cakaj's candidacy.
After this refusal, Baton Haxhiu told of the pencil.al that he considered President Meta's act an unworthy and antihistoric act.
Following is the complete text that Haxhi had sent to President Meta shortly before he declared his refusal.
Hello, Ilir.
These days I have attended the changes in Albania's Government in general and have followed with special concern the extension of the decree for the new Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Gent Cakaj.
With public presentations, especially after returning from several years of schooling, Gail has become politically hopeful and has distinguished herself from his wise approach and careful actions.
Moreover, for already a year and more, Gail has served devoutly in Albania's Government from the Prime Minister's Cabinet to Zv. Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
It is of the few people in Albania and Kosovo, and especially rarer than his generation, which most daily manifests apathy in attitudes and confusion in thought, which still bears the heavy burden of knowledge and the form of human care.
Just as you're aware that you've already completed every possible investigation into him, Gail is one of the personalities without manipulations in education and no relationship with career corrupts. He is simply a clean, clear - minded, ideal - minded boy and, without question, more prepared than anyone in the same position before him.
According to Albania's Constitution, therefore, for the decree of the proposed ministers, your role, Ilir, is merely ceremonial. If you want to take advantage of the gaps in Albania's judicial system for day-to-day political account and influenced by the unprecedented wave of rumors in recent days, Ilir, not only will you not allow the appointment of a man who represents hope in society and brings knowledge to institutions, but, in fact, will seal the deep institutional divide between Kosovo and Albania. Between the Kosovo Albanians and Albania.
At the time you are consistently declared for the necessity of co-operation between Kosovo and Albania you cannot arbitrarily block the appointment of a minister from Kosovo with an excellent reputation and abundant qualifications!
If you are to keep the new minister's decree on hold, you will also retain institutional responsibility for the failure of young politicians in Albania, the exclusion of a fine Kosovar from high institutional life in Albania and the practical deadlock of productive co-operation between the two countries.
Trusting that the name, which it holds on the table, for the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, represents the highest quality for the task and, remaining in hopes that you will rise above daily policies, narrow interests and religious logic that Albania and Kosovo -- I, in a friendly manner -- seek the quickest decree of Albania's most deserved top diplomat.
Ilir! Listen carefully to what Baton is saying: You're making a big mistake and don't go any further on this historic mistake!
