Periscop sources have announced that US Ambassador to Kosovo Philip Costett's meeting with Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj and Chief Prime Minister Kadri Wessel will be held at 12:00. The main issue to be discussed at this meeting, whose host is Wessel, will be the 100 per cent tax on goods coming from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It has been several weeks since the United States of America has put pressure on tax removal on Serbian products, as it is hampering dialogue with Serbia in Brussels.
US Embassy officials in Kosovo had stated that they are constantly appealing to the Kosovo leadership to clear this fee, set two months ago.
Our position regarding tariffs has not changed. The United States has repeatedly appealed to the Kosovo leadership to suspend tariffs in goods from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. As we have said before, we don't see how Kosovo benefits from these” measures, points to the Embassy's response.
Furthermore, it is said the US urges Kosovo to focus on its essential interests, which concern the European future and normalisation of reports with Serbia.
“We strongly promote renewed focus on Kosovo's core interests, its European future and normalised relationship with Serbia. We hope to see the secure and bold leader on both sides of the table, which is needed to move forward and get out of the current” blockade, is further highlighted in response to the American Embassy.
On the other hand, Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, when asked whether he will remove the tax, has responded with irony during yesterday's day.
“Bora will once melt” ) Haradinaj said yesterday, alluding to whether even the tax will be removed sometime.
But, the Kosovo government is conditioned for tax removal, with recognition from Serbia and the enterprise of reciprocal measures.
Sources within the Government of Kosovo for Periscope during yesterday have clarified that Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj will meet with US Ambassador Philip S. Cosnets on a regular basis, as do other representatives of the QUINS.
Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj meets with the American ambassador on regular grounds. So it's weekly meetings. They also meet often with ambassadors of other QUINT] countries. We don't know why they made this meeting so big tomorrow when it's just a routine issue. As well as we are not officials, it was said in response within the Government.
The same explanation lies with the Kosovo Assembly. Officials within this institution have told Periscopi that the chief speaker holds regular meetings with foreign ambassadors, but also with heads of state.
According to them, they will discuss topics about the areas of responsibility they bear, without even excluding the 100 percent tax decision, which is very current.
Every week, President Kadri Wessel has a regular meeting with the American ambassador and other ambassadors of the QUINT countries. The topics of discussion are also mainly of the areas of responsibility they have. It's certain that they'll even talk about the 100 percent tax, as it's the actual topic, but we can't say that the meeting was specifically called on this topic”.
Periscop has also tried to receive an answer from the US Embassy in Kosovo, yet they during yesterday have been calm because of an American holiday. Today, however, they have said they cannot provide details about meetings where the ambassador is only a guest, not a host.
Prime Minister Haradinaj also said yesterday he welcomes the meeting, to be held in the middle of him tomorrow, the chairman of the Parliament and ambassador of America to Kosovo, though he has not provided details for the discussion.
“I welcome the meeting, something good, is Wessel's proposal welcomes this” meeting, he said.
Haradinaj estimated that Serbia, as the biggest importer, deserves the tax in response to the tough campaign against Kosovo's citizenship.
Persistent pressure on Kosovo on this issue is also laying out the European Union. They argue that this could negatively affect the development of dialogue between the two countries.
Days ago, Bosnia and Herzegovina has called on the Government of Kosovo to dialogue on the removal of the tax on them. The team appointed by the Minister of Trade and Industry responded positively, but have said it will make clear to Bosnia that the decision remains in force.
However, tax on these two states, even after two months, is being held firm by Kosovo Government. /Periscopi/
