Uncontrolled diet and lack of physical activity is driving Albanians rapidly towards obesity. This situation becomes a cause, among other things, to exposure to deadly diseases. A survey of the Institute of Public Health in Albania and INSTAT found that in 2018 about 45% of women and 53% of men aged 15-49 were overweight or obesity.
Half of women aged 15-49 have normal weight, 4% are weak, and 45% are overweight or obesity.
The percentage of women aged 15-49 underweight has slightly increased from 3% in 2008 to 4% in 2018. In the same period, the percentage of overweight women from 39% in 2008 rose to 45% in 2018.
The percentage of overweight or obese women grows significantly by age, from 14% to women aged 15-19 to 75% among women aged 40-49.
The percentage of women who are overweight or obese decreases in education rates, from 49% in women with primary and 4-year education to less than 35% among those with university.
While between 15-49-year-old males, 39% have normal weight, 2% are underweight, and nearly 60% are overweight or obesity.
The men's percentage of age 15-49 underweight slightly rose from 1% in 2008 to 2% to 2018. The percentage of overweight males or obesity remained unchanged at 53%, Tch reports.
As with women, the percentage of men who are overweight or obesity increases significantly by age, up from 14% at 15-19, rises to 76% in men 40-49.
The percentages of men with normal weight are higher in rural areas (4.8%) than in urban areas (43%).
The percentage of overweight men and obesity is lower in education and higher at the most advanced educational levels.
Nearly 60% of men with university and high capital property are overweight or obese.
