Enver Shabani, overseer of the voting performance at the polling site, says the vote in the referendum on Macedonia's new name has largely gone smoothly and without incident, the KP reports.
There are no delays, no excesses, but there have been massive numbers of voters, but are still expected. 55 percent is the exit, of this 55 per cent and 2 per cent are not Macedonians, all Albanians. By 7:00, I believe they will appear at least 20 to 30 percent”, he said.
For their part, citizens had divided opinions on the referendum on changing the name in northern Macedonia.
Melihate Elez from Skopje says she has made her vote invalid, in a sign of dissatisfaction as her husband cannot take over Macedonian citizenship.
I am born and raised in Skopje. I live in Skopje, I'm right with the doctor. I don't know how Macedonia is supposed to enter NATO, when I as a citizen am not satisfied, how do they want to enter Europe, with Europe breaking up?... I have been ill for a month, I have been given red lines why my husband is a citizen of Kosovo. I'm not entitled to be a citizen of Macedonia, I have the crown here, I don't give his citizenship, I have no right to insurance... I didn't vote unless I made an X. So far I have voted very little. I've come out to make an invalid vote. Don't let my vote go for it, because they know how to make it worth it, because they know everything. I don't vote because when I'm not entitled to my health, I don't have to vote”, she said.
While Adem Feta says they have voted for a European and integrated Macedonia in NATO.
“We have come up for a European Macedonia”, he said.
