According to authorities, his body had signs of violence, including severe wounds. The murder investigation is under way.
Shityuk was known for his work on the genocide of the 1930s that left thousands of people dead in Ukraine.
This genocide occurred in 1932-33, until Soviet authorities pressured villagers to become part of collective farms, denying them access to their products.
Historians estimate that the siege of 1932 by Soviet authorities was the chief cause of genocide.
Ukraine and some other countries have considered the genocide known as Family against the Ukrainian people. / REL
