The chief executive of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, told US lawmakers that his company's algorithms have not always been impartial “ ”.

He said the “platform fairly” has reduced the visibility of 600,000 accounts, including some members of Congress.

Dorsey couldn't say whether most of them were Republicans, Democrats or others.

Dorsey was questioned by US senators over allegations that Twitter censors conservative voices.

Several Republicans, including American President Donald Trump, have accused Twitter of bias that the company denies.

He admitted that the company made mistakes.

On Wednesday, the US Justice Department said it would investigate the increased “concerns that these companies could harm competition and in order to stifle free exchange of ideas on their platforms”.

Claims of censorship have increased after Twitter added a <x0-filter to quality” on the platform and for search results.
