Thaci clashes against Haradinaj depreciate Kosovo in dialogue

Recently Haradinaj, on Wednesday, in a show on Albania's Klan television, rejecting the idea of changing borders between Kosovo and Serbia, which President Thaci calls “border correction”, has said that the <x2 borders that have placed the boots (military) only guarantee the boots. I don't allow our borders to be affected”, Haradinaj said.

Referring to this statement, President Thaci said on Thursday that the “that are talking about wars, I'm not preventing them, anyone who wants to start where he wants” and that “wars are not carried out in TV shows but in instincts”.

Arton Demhasaj, director of the non-governmental organisation “Arise”, speaking of Radio Free Europe, deems the clashes harmful through statements by President Thaci and Prime Minister Haradinaj, who, according to him, contain a major dose of political rivalry.

There are definitely political rivalries, as they were before this government exists today. We have, on the one hand, the president who requires border correction, and on the other hand, we have the prime minister who on no side allows the border line to be affected that has been and that is clarified even with the Ahtisaari Document. The government has also appointed a specific group for dialogue that, in some way, unable the president to discuss the border issue. If the main leaders of the institutions, the president, prime minister and chairman of the Assembly disagree on how to negotiate in the dialogue with Serbia and what those red lines should be about what should not be discussed, then I consider this to be a very big problem”, Demhaya stressed.

Life Krasniqi, from the Kosovo Democratic Institute, tells Radio Free Europe that verbal clashes between institutional leaders indicate the lack of inter-institutionary co-ordination and that there is no exchange of information among them about what is being discussed in the dialogue process.

The “is seen as being led by President Thaci. The government, by means of a decision it made several months ago, has approved and removed the mandate from itself, carrying it to President Thaci to manage this process. It was Prime Minister Haradinaj himself who said I didn't have time to deal with this process. In fact, it is reflecting that the lack of co-ordination among institutions is a problem, as we are having different messages from institutional leaders and it is seen reflecting later on the lack of a unique Kosovo state stance”, Krasniqi said.

The lack of co-ordination of institutional leaders, according to political development connoisseurs, would cause Kosovo a lot of problems in its position in the Brussels dialogue, as well as access to this dialogue.

Demhayan says when the opposition's disagreement on access to dialogue adds to these disputes, it puts Kosovo in a very unfavourable position in the process.

When President Thaci heads and negotiates in Brussels on such a topic (X) -- then he has to calculate that for this he has no support, first of Kosovo institutions, and then other political parties. That discussion, then, can only be in his personal name or just based on the presidential institution and not on other institutions. So, it is a very unfavourable position, which puts Kosovo in a unfavourable position as well and strengthens Serbia's position, which it also has strengthened today”, Demhasaj said.

Krasniqi has similar thoughts.

“Such a division or failure to contain a unique approach of the state of Kosovo in this process can certainly harm Kosovo and its position or position in this dialogue”, Krasniqi stressed.

However, Krasniqi has said that despite the fact that Kosovo and Serbia are part of the facilitated negotiations by the European Union, other powerful international factors are involved in the process. Determining the latter's position will also affect Kosovo's domestic policy.
