Serbia's Minister of Internal Affairs, Nebojsa Stefanovic, said that Kosovo officially and legally could not run for membership in Interpol, but the pressures of powerful Western countries are great, that the demand for its membership in Interpol could be approved at the next meeting of the Interpol General Assembly.
According to him, “Kosovo can co-operate with Interpol, because it is part of Serbia, but that as protectorates have UNMIK”, Serbian media report.
Furthermore, Stefanovic said Serbia would try to remove the request for Kosovo to become an Interpol member, to be held in the United Arab Emirates.
If we succeed in doing so, we will try to convince Interpol that Kosovo membership is harmful to the organisation” itself, Stefanovic said, among other things.
Stefanovic, among other things, recalled last meeting of this global security organisation held in China, when Kosovo failed to join.
He added that some “countries are trying to put Kosovo's application for membership in different international institutions now, as dialogue is under way for reaching a permanent solution between the two countries”. / RTK
