A ship that draws plastic tubes filled with air and 600 meters in length, whose purpose is to clear “ ” the ocean from plastic waste, sailed from San Francisco for testing before continuing to sail towards the large Pacific waste dump.

The floating tubes represent the largest barrier ever created in the sea called System 001, the AP reports.

The goal of this system's creator, the non-profit Dutch organisation “Cleanup Ocean”, is to empty half or about 40,000 tonnes of waste in the next five years, Kosovo Press broadcasts.

Oceanography and project author Loren Lebreton confirmed that some 80,000 tonnes of waste are located in the Pacific.
