Kosovar who received France's letters after heroic works in French town

In June of this year, as a result of bad weather, this city faced floods.

On June 9, when Florim was about to go out with his family, he had seen people risk losing their lives in floods caused by rising water levels.

Despite his risk of life, he says that he was immediately immersed in water, where he managed to save a woman and her two children, one still a baby.

Speaking from France to Radio Free Europe, Florim explains how he had saved his first family.

I've moved that woman with two children, a baby about five and a half or six years old, and a baby a month. When my mother told me she had babies, I was actually shocked”, said Florim Shehu.

A few minutes later, in another house, Florim was back in the water, saving three others.

If God gave you a force at that moment, I don't know, I can't speak right now, there are some things I can't talk about, even a week maybe I can't tell it all, because there were exciting moments when you get there and you have to give strength to someone who's just in a state of shock, said Shehu.

Despite his risk of life, Florim says that he would do the same if he again found himself in such a situation.

If they tell me once again, if you'd been back in that time, would you go in again? Come back. I've actually learned from this story two things I'm going to need for the rest of my life, I'll keep them in mind. The first is that I've been able to see the face of people who think they're dying and help. You can't always see this in your life. Second, I've won the hearts of 70 million people here”, Shehu said.

After leaving Kosovo three years earlier, Florim had sought asylum in France and later joined his family, wife, and two children.

After the heroic action three months earlier, on September 8th of this year, Florim had been announced by municipal authorities that the French state had issued permission to him and his family, where he was organised formal thanks reception.

Floration has now turned into a known person for the community living in this city, while accepting numerous wishes even from different political representatives.

The community has also undertaken an initiative to collect money so that it can buy a new car, since the car that had been damaged the day the flooding occurred. / REL
