KFOR Commander Salvatore Cuuci has said they were willing to intervene during Alexander Vuciqi's visit to Kosovo.
He has told Serbian television First, that it has been the decision of Kosovo institutions to stop Vucinj from going to the village of Banja in Sqaheraj.
“We have been ready for each situation, though we have been number three in terms of responsibilities. The first was the Kosovo Police, then EULEX and finally us. But we've been ready for any possible situation that could be created, and we've stayed at the border point where Vuciq has passed to create a safe environment. In general, however, everything has gone smoothly, except for the village of Baja. Since this village is located in a place that has a recent war history, there have been police officers there, but since there have been protesters, for us, it has been welcome for your president's decision not to go to that village. If we were to intervene, the situation would be very different. Finally, the solution was found for that too, and for us it has been a well thought-out act, so Vuciki's failure at Banja”, he said of the Serbian media, via Skype, writes Periscope.
In any case, we were obviously willing to intervene, but we needed an official permit for that, he said.
According to him, the most important thing has been for no one to be hurt during Vuciq's visit to Kosovo.
The primary issue has been the president's safety, the annulment of this visit has also addressed other problems that could happen in that country, he said, writes Periscope.
He added that KFOR was present at the site where the barricades were placed, near the village of Banja, and was willing to intervene in any situation, but said it was better that everything was under control and thus averted conflicts between visitors and protesters”.
He has also said that Kosovo police have taken good care of the Serbian president's security, as well as have overlooked any kind of provocation.
“I say once again that KFOR has been willing to intervene even at the barricades, but since the decision was made by Kosovo institutions that your president's visit be cancelled to the village of Banja, then everything went well and I say once more that is the most important”, he added. /Periscope.
