Change of border between Kosovo and Serbia, idea that remains pending

However, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci continues to be persistent in his idea of border correction.

On the other hand, Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, who of the idea of changing the border, has called it “definition between Serbs and Albanians”, speaking of his policy oriented for “Serbia to save a lot in Kosovo”, has said this policy has “experienced losses”.

For that, as he has called “loss”, he has accused his policy objectors.

Naim Rasiti, director of the Balkan Policy Group in Kosovo, tells Radio Free Europe, that Vuciqi's statements do not imply withdrawal from his politics, but reflect the situation in which he has opened to himself many fronts.

“The main problem of opening these many fronts is its inability to close dialogue with Kosovo. It means that he (Vuchic) is still in panic and indecisive of a final agreement, whether the identity or recognition meant. Now, he is dealing more with the consistencys and strategic calculations than he is putting off the final deal”, Rashi stressed.

On the other hand, Randel Nojik, Serbian connoisseur of political developments, speaking of Radio Free Europe, suggests that he is not only President Vuciq in a bad situation.

According to him, Western factors themselves have allowed President Vuciq and President Thaci to talk about the idea of changing the border, to see how far it can go with this idea.

Taking into account the objections of Western factors, Vucic, according to him, is slowly drawing away from this situation, wanting to create the impression that the stop is now in the court of President Thaci.

“Vucciq, is slowly pulling away from all this confession. However, Thaci is still trying to keep himself in this game, and I think Thaci has now dropped into the water current. Absolutely, he is already on his own, and he has neither Belgrade's support to sit down and talk, despite Vuciq's saying it would be best for Belgrade and Pristina to agree without the international community, even though we all know that no agreement is possible without the international community”, Nojjic said.

Political Affairs Knower Ismail Hasani tells Radio Free Europe that President Thaci has failed to be transparent about what his idea implies and how his idea will be realised for, as he has called, “border correction”.

The fact that there is confusion in thought, as well as the withdrawal of Vucinki to rehabilitate himself with what he tried to legitimise Wyman as his resource and rehabilitate Milosevic Thaci not only is himself, but at the same time is in a situation, I would say, almost ridiculously. That's because the West is just waiting for the slip into error. At the same time, the West is saying, indirectly, solve your problems and then we see the letters as to what deals you reached”, Hasani stressed.

But is Kosovo's president lonely in delaying the idea of changing the border between Kosovo and Serbia as a solution to the dispute between the two countries?

Serbian President Vuciq, speaking of the loss of his policy by, as he has called Serbia “of the collapse and wailing”, has also stressed that this was the first “raund”.

Petar Miletic, Serbian connoisseur of political developments, speaking of Radio Free Europe, has expressed the opinion that such Vuciqi statements should not be taken too seriously.

Whatever he says can be but not necessarily. I understand what the essence of the case is, that in case this was the first round, there'd be another one. There will be another round, but it will no longer be in this direction”, Miletic stressed.

But Rashi's thinking is different. According to him, President Vuciq will return to the idea of changing the border.

“Vukiqi does not recognise Kosovo under any circumstances, without changing Kosovo's border, at this stage and returns again to the idea of partition and exchange from their prospect for partition. However, President Thaci insists that there be agreements and I believe it will remain rigid in the idea of having an agreement, even if it involves exchange or partition. At this stage the most talk about preserving the dialogue process, having agreement, because its failure could be a disaster for both countries and the future, at least for the first decade”, Rashi said.

However, while Germany has expressed scepticism about the idea of changing the border between Kosovo and Serbia. Great Britain has rejected that idea.

Recently, the outgoing ambassador of the United States, Greg Delawi, has said that <x0-5thelbi of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia must come from the province itself”.

However, he has stressed that <x0 limits are going to be accepted and that they do not want to see “an agreement that would create more problems than it would solve”.
