Zvecan Deputy Mayor Drem Peci says KDS stopped the current at the water pumps, thus leaving Albanian residents without water, while 100 surrounding villages inhabited by Serbs are continuing to be supplied with water.
But KED, through a brief response, has said that after many remarks to pay the debt, it has been forced to shut off consumers on this side. Until it says the debt is considerable.
The regional water pipeline technical director in Mitrovica, Kadri Istrefi, who has said that the northern residents send the water free of charge but the problem lies with the municipality of Zvecan, which has failed to fulfill obligations to KED.
While the Kosovo government, in March of this year, had earmarked 1m euros to cover electricity expenses in northern municipalities.
Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj had said this is a temporary decision that preserves the functionality of the COST network.
