Ahmeti: International accords pass through Parliament, not Thaci signing

Social Democrat Party leader Shpend Ahmeti has accused the president, Hashim Thaci, saying he is clear how international agreements should be ratified but that he wants to flee the Assembly through any interpretation of the Constitutional Court. According to Ahmeti, the president is authorised to sign international agreements, but not of that nature, as [...]

According to Ahmeti, the president is authorised to sign international agreements, but not of this nature, as described in the correspondence between him and Moghrin, because the Constitution has established the constitution for the kind of agreements that are ratified by 2/3 of all Parliament deputies.

The “in this case is not about the international treaty that comes into force only with the signing of the republic's president, but also needs a collective community, corresponding to 2/3 of all MPs. This is the case three times ago, with the ratification of the letters of exchange between the president and representatives of the European Union. The current process should go through the Parliament and not through signing one person, in this case President” wrote Ahmeti in his Facebook account.

The Republic of Kosovo, as defined with the Constitution, is democratic and parliamentary, has written Ahmeti, and power is divided to decide on specific issues.

In the concrete case of the International Accords Ratification, the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, with 2/3 of the votes (80 deputies) all MPs ratified international agreements on the following issues:

(1) territory, peace, alliances, political and military affairs;

(2) Basic rights and freedoms;

(3) membership of the Republic of Kosovo in international organisations;

(4) Taking over financial obligations from the Republic of Kosovo”, he has added.
