13 children abandoned in 2018 in Kosovo, sociologists see it as a disturbing figure

According to Webi Mujek, director of the Centre for Social Affairs by contrast this year, 12 children have been abandoned by their families in advance.
At the local level, however, there are 13 cases that children were abandoned by their parents during 2018.
Although this number is lower compared to the same period last year, figures are disturbing.
So said sociologist Walter Nassufi, who says that there are many ways that affect social awareness.
The “suggests that awareness campaigns should be made both by competent state bodies and by civil society, or by various associations aimed at protecting children. In this way, parents will realize that abandoning a child is a serious act, and the consequences are great for the child, family, and successful association. Even the media must also play its role in the particular and social awareness of”, Nasufi has said.
Undesirable pregnancy, family support, lack of financial income and residence are some of the reasons why young mothers push them to abandon their children.
So say officials from SOS villages who have indicated they have accepted four children abandoned during 2018.
They say they are currently caring for 59 children, offering all necessary conditions to enable them a better and safer life.
Even the Ministry of Labour and Social Management says they offer several alternatives to care for abandoned children, as well as in co-operation with the Social Work Centres, they offer security to these children.
SOS Villages from their founding have provided care for more than 500 abandoned children.
