A false account WhatsApp has appeared on Twitter, claiming it will provide users with free data throughout September.

The account, called WhatsApp Africa, tweeted: “We are providing app data during September. Follow and read sweet. Comment with your number Whatsapp. ”

So far, the call has received much attention, with 186 tweets, 220 preferences, and 143 comments on the time of this article's writing, broadcast Indexline.

Sadly, many people seemed to believe that it was true and responded with their phone numbers.

However, the others were quick to ask whether this was true, or a scam.

IamFranco tweeted: “Who the hell is whatsapp Africa?”

And Cat Swart added: “Oh look, a cheap fraud. Horrible attention to details as well... I can't even read his name for a promoted post. Also btw, whatsApp doesn't supply your data, your networks. It's a lie and it has nothing to do with whatsapp. Do not be misled”, states the announcement.
